Meet Happy!

Happy is a 2-year-old shepherd mix weighing about 67 pounds. He is a loving, loyal, and incredibly smart dog looking for a home where he has the space and structure to truly thrive. He is affectionate with his people, enjoys being active, and has a big personality to match his big size. Happy previously lived with a cat and did very well with her, playing daily with one another, and him giving her affectionate licks. He even loved playing with her cat toys, like her fake furry mice!!

Happy is highly intelligent. When he was first adopted by his previous family, he already knew an impressive number of commands including “go,” “sit,” “lay down,” “eat,” “paw,” “up,” and “come here,” to name a few, which speaks to both his trainability and strong potential in the right environment. He responds well to structure and consistency and would thrive with an owner experienced with larger dogs, who has access to large outdoor space where Happy can run and burn off energy, and who can continue building on the foundation he already has. While Happy is very loving with people he knows, he can be anxious and eager around other dogs and would benefit from continued training, careful introductions, and an environment that helps him feel secure and calm.

His previous family loved him deeply, but apartment living in New York City became increasingly difficult for a dog of his size and energy level. With limited space and a lifestyle that no longer could meet his needs, they made the difficult decision to find him a home where he can be happier, more comfortable, and set up for long-term success.

Happy would thrive in a home with more space, ideally with a yard and access to outdoor activities. He has so much love to give and deserves a family that can fully accommodate his needs and give him the life he deserves.
