Bear

Your New Best Friend

Meet Bear! Bear is a 7-month-old Shepherd mix weighing approximately 49 pounds, with a handsome black-and-tan coat and so much potential waiting to shine.

Bear came to us from a hoarding situation, and his transition into a kennel environment has been difficult. Before coming into rescue, his world was very different. He had spent his life indoors where he had very little experience with the everyday sights, sounds, routines, and experiences that most dogs grow up knowing. Adjusting to life in a kennel—and learning that the outdoors can be a safe and enjoyable place—has been a big change for him.

Because of his past, Bear may need more time than the average dog to feel comfortable and confident. He isn't looking for someone who expects him to immediately know how to navigate a home or fit perfectly into a routine. He needs someone who is willing to meet him where he is and patiently help him discover where he can go.

Bear is a very smart boy, and once he understands something, he is capable of learning and making progress. He has so much potential, and watching him begin to experience new things and gain confidence is incredibly rewarding. One of Bear's favorite things is going for walks. Walks give him an opportunity to explore, experience the world, and use his mind and senses in a positive way. They can be a wonderful outlet for him and an important part of helping him continue to build confidence. Bear would also thrive with active mental stimulation. He is intelligent and would benefit from activities that give him something to think about—training, enrichment games, scent work, puzzle toys, and learning new skills. Keeping his mind engaged will be just as important as keeping his growing body active.

Bear needs an adopter who understands that progress may take time. Someone who is patient, consistent, and willing to put in the work will give Bear the best opportunity to succeed.

Bear isn't looking for a perfect home—he's looking for the right person. Someone who will see the dog underneath his past and understand that his challenges are not a reflection of his potential. At just 7 months old, Bear has so much life ahead of him. He has already experienced more than any puppy should have to, but his story doesn't have to end there. He needs someone who will look at where he is today and say, "I'll help you get there." With patience, consistency, enrichment, and someone willing to invest in him, Bear has the opportunity to gain confidence, learn how wonderful life can be, and become the happy companion we know is inside him. Bear's story isn't defined by where he came from. It's defined by where he goes next.
